Pre-order Forgotten
Palestinian Cities

'This book is a pillar of Palestinian scholarship that we need more of. I reach for these images every time I need an escape from the present’s agony, and to remember that one day we will reclaim our land. Until then, we must preserve our history and continue to defy the occupation by remembering, imagining, and resisting.'

‘My dear Palestine, what a blessing it is to be burdened with you.’

For nine years, an anonymous Palestinian historian and artist has maintained the memory of the more than 400 Palestinian towns and villages ethnically cleansed during the Nakba. Through their meticulously colourised archival images and gently lyrical, informative texts, Anonymous offers a rare and precious glimpse into pre-Nakba life in Forgotten Palestinian Cities. This debut collection is an immersive and stunning visual record that vividly recalls a not-so-distant past.

Books for Kids

THEN AND NOW by Datsun Tran
$30.00

A 2025 CBCA Picture Book of the Year Notable

Refugees have been out of sight and out of mind. We are often dehumanised in the media and by politicians. This book is important because it visualises and humanises a refugee story.

—Behrouz Boochani

An astounding work of light and shadow, this poetic and profound book is a rare treasure.

—Zeno Sworder

Datsun Tran has distilled the essence of hope with the absolute clarity of experience lived, felt and shared. Then and Now offers a glimpse of what is at stake through the eyes of our children; the future, the reason and reward. This book is a star in the darkness!

TABKHA by Mona Zahed
$40.00

Writing from her tent in Gaza, chef Mona Zahed shares twenty-two of her ancestral recipes, lovingly nurtured and recalled.

Each dish is illustrated by a different artist, creating a visual feast as delicious as the food itself. Connoisseurs of Palestinian cuisine and newcomers alike will be nourished by Mona’s Tabkha.

After October 2023, Mona lost her catering business, her home, her husband’s workplace, and so much more to settler colonial violence. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go directly to the author and her community.

Mona Zahed is a Palestinian chef and mother living in Gaza. Mona has always loved cooking, artfully presenting food, and helping her friends prepare for their special occasions. Prior to October 2023 she ran a successful catering business, putting her skills and passions to practice. Tabkha is Mona's debut title, filled with twenty-two of her most beloved recipes.

The first edition of Tabkha was a concept prepped and served with love by Mona and her friends from Coffees for Gaza, published by Slingshot Books. Coffees for Gaza is a creative mutual aid collective.

$15.00

The Pull it Down Reader provides a framework for those seeking to better understand and strategise around monuments on Aboriginal Land. James Tylor is a multidisciplinary artist and writer of Kaurna, Māori and European family. He writes about environment, culture and history. Matt Chun is an artist, writer and children’s book creator of Chinese and European family, with an interest in the visual culture of anti-imperialism. For bookings and enquiries contact Tess // hello@slingshotbooks.com.au

Slingshot’s Tess Cullity has worked as an editor for over a decade, both freelance and in-house, with particular experience in picture books, junior fiction, life writing and personal development.

Tess provides honest feedback and expert consultation in a way that energises and nurtures.

Refine your concept: Book a session to discuss your story idea. Together, we’ll explore what success and creative satisfaction mean for you. We’ll gain clarity around your artistic direction, imagined audience and desired outcomes.

With this information as our compass, we’ll evaluate a variety of publishing pathways for your project, review comparison titles and references, and map out your next steps. My intention is that you leave this meeting with a sense of purpose and action.

Manuscript development: I’ll read your manuscript, whether it’s an early or final draft, and we’ll follow up with a one-on-one session. My feedback will be primarily driven by your personal goals, however this will naturally lead to discussions about the intended audience, narrative structure, character and plot development, language use, cultural or political ideology, and a range of other project-specific considerations.

Copy editing: Your manuscript feels complete. Now you need a nerdy, attentive and experienced editor to read it line by line. I’ll assist with the process of polishing and finessing, while offering comments and queries to help elevate your work.

Publishing industry demystification: The western publishing industry is exclusionary and elitist. Much of how it operates is shrouded in mystery for those who are on the outside attempting to look in. I hold a Master of Publishing from the University of Melbourne, have worked as a freelancer and in-house editor for conventional publishers, and I now run my own independent publishing house. I’m in an excellent position to answer your questions and support you as you navigate your way into or through (or in conscious opposition to) this industry. If you want to take a conventional path with your work, I’ll happily provide you with the information and resources to do so. If you want to do things differently, I’m here to help you make strategic decisions.
